Surfing fitness camp

fitness-campIf you want to take your surfing to the next level or just need a little surf trip, then check this out.  The Surf Stronger Fitness and Performance Camp is making a stop in Santa Barbara next month.

The training includes daily workouts, yoga, stretching, stand-up paddling, TRX suspension training and much more.  There will also be surf sessions, expert coaching and video critiques from pro surfer Holly Beck.

Those who attend will stay in nice beach cottages one block from the sand.  Spaces are limited and rates start at $695 per person (based on double occupancy).

Bobby Martinez wins Billabong Pro Tahiti

bobby-martinezThe 2009 Billabong Pro Tahiti wrapped up today with the win going to a Santa Barbara local. Bobby Martinez met up with Aussie ripper Taj Burrow in the final in fair to good, 3-5 foot surf at Teahupoo.

Martinez, who is a goofy-footer, seemed to have the advantage at the left hand reef break.  He picked off two solid tube rides in the 35-minute final wracking up a total of 18.46 points while Taj Burrow scored a combined 16.10 points.

This is the second victory for Bobby Martinez at Teahupoo.  He took the win at the event back in 2006.  Martinez has been without a major clothing sponsor for some time, so we’ll have to see if  he inks a new deal before the next Dream Tour contest in Brazil.
