September 7th, 2009, 8:10 am by Jeff Malanca, contributing writer

andrew-dohenyOne of North America’s best 16 and under surfers has made another big accomplishment.  Newport Beach’s Andrew Doheny is the most recent addition to the PacSun USA Surf Team.

Doheny has been a top competitor for several years in the NSSA and is currently rated number four on the ASP North America Pro Junior Tour.

He was chosen by PacSun USA Surf Team Head Coach Ian Cairns to be one of five surfers to represent the U.S. in the boys 18 and under division.

When Doheny’s not competing or on a photo trip to some remote surf spot, he can be found ripping up his backyard, 54th street in Newport Beach.

Andrew Doheny’s sponsors include Volcom clothing and wetsuits, Vans shoes, Electric Visual, JS Surfboards, Creatures of Leisure surfing accessories, Sex Wax , Vestal Watches and HSS surf shop.

PacSun USA Surf Team update from Costa Rica at World Games

August 3rd, 2009, 10:51 am by Laylan Connelly, staff writer

The PacSun USA Surf Team arrived in Costa Rica a few days ago, charging waves and dominating on the first day of the World Games in Costa Rica.

On the first day at Playa Hermosa,  all six American shortboarders won their first round heats in tricky three-to-four foot surf.

Going into their third day, and coach Ian Cairns sounded optimistic.

“I’m pleased with the effort so far,” said Ian Cairns, PacSun USA Surf Team Coach.  “The team is staying focused and we’re positioned well with everyone still in the qualifying rounds.  Where mistakes have been made, the team is learning from them.  Some of our guys got behind in their heats and had to fight their way back.  It’s good to see them bringing that passion and intensity forward as we move toward the later rounds.”

Here’s some fresh photos from day 3.

UPDATE: Here’s the latest video from day 4:

Santa Ana’s Courtney Conlogue - who took home the win at the Hurley US Open of Surfing last week and was also named the 2009 OC Surfer of the Year Rising Star - is among the surfers on the USA team.
