Wednesday surf report: A little crumbly and bumpy

April 8th, 2009, 7:21 am by Jeff Malanca, contributing writer

Waking up with the waves on Wednesday.  Well it’s looking a little crumbly and bumpy out there.  We’re dealing with a light to moderate northwest wind which is putting some bump or light chop on it.

We’ve got a mix of  continued fading south southeast swell and some minor west northwest energy in the water.  That recipe is making for some fairly sectiony lines with a few workable ones.

Most OC beaches are running about knee to stomach high with the focal points pulling chest high waves with a few plus sets.

At 9:17 this morning the tide climbs up to a 4.8 high and then drops to a 0.3 low at 3:09 this afternoon.  If you’re planning on paddling, break out no more than a 4/3 fullsuit with the water temp at most spots hanging between 57 and 59 degrees.

Tuesday surf report: Better shape

April 7th, 2009, 7:01 am by Jeff Malanca, contributing writer

Good Tuesday morning surf addicts.  Well it’s looking a little more shapely today, but the only bummer we’re dealing with a light west northwest wind which is putting some bump on it at many spots.

We’ve got a mix of continued fading south southeast swell and a little west northwest energy in the water.  That recipe is offering us some fast crumbly sectiony lines with a few good steep corners to pick off.

Most OC beaches are running about waist to chest high with the top spots pulling shoulder to head high waves with a few plus sets.

At 8:32 this morning the tide climbs up to a 5 foot high which will have some spots a bit swamped mid morning.  The tide then drains out to a negative 0.1 low at 2:39 this afternoon.

If you’re gonna get wet, break out no more than a 4/3 fullsuit with the water temp at most breaks averaging between 57 and 59 degrees.

Monday surf report: Early summer swell continues

April 6th, 2009, 6:37 am by Jeff Malanca, contributing writer

Good Monday morning surf addicts.  Well if you’re bummed about the start of the new work week, then go get wet.  Yep there’s still a pretty good dose of action out there.

It’s nice and clean with mostly holding south southeast swell in the water.  That recipe is making for some fast semi-wally lines, but you can definitely pick off some good makeable corners.

Most OC beaches are running about waist to chest high with the top south facing breaks pulling shoulder to head high waves with a few plus sets.

At 7:43 this morning the tide climbs up to a 5.1 high which will have some spots a little full mid morning.  The tide then drains out to a negative 0.3 low at 2:07 this afternoon.

If you’re gonna grab a session, break out no more than a 4/3 full with the water temp at most spots hanging between 57 and 58 degrees.

Sunday surf report: Looking good!!

April 5th, 2009, 9:53 am by Jeff Malanca, contributing writer

Waking up with the waves on Sunday.  Well it’s definitely looking good out there.  We’ve got a good dose of action.  It’s clean and glassy with a mix of mostly south swell with some northwest energy in the water.

That recipe is offering some fairly crossed up sectiony lines with plenty of good wedgy corners.  Most OC beaches are running about chest to shoulder high with the top combo breaks pulling head high to overhead sets.

At 6:49 this morning the tide climbed up to a 4.9 high and then drains out to a negative 0.4 low at 1:31 this afternoon.  If you’re planning on paddling, break out no more than a 4/3 fullsuit with the water temp hanging between 57 and 59 degrees.

Saturday surf report: Crumbly broken up lines

April 4th, 2009, 7:10 am by Jeff Malanca, contributing writer

Good Saturday morning surf addicts.  Well it’s looking kinda fun out there.  We’re seeing some texture on the water due to the very light southeast wind.  Lets hope it lays down!!

We’ve got mostly a decent amount of northwest windswell and a touch of southwest energy in the water.  That recipe is making for some crumbly broken up lines, but the shoulders are pretty short.

Most OC beaches are running about knee to stomach high with the focal points pulling chest high waves with maybe a plus set if you’re lucky.

At 5:42 early this morning the tide climbed up to a 4.9 high which will have some spots pretty full throughout the morning.  It then drains out to a negative 0.5 low at 12:50 this afternoon.

If you’re gonna get wet, break out no more than a 4/3 fullsuit with the water temp at most spots hanging between 57 and 58 degrees.

Friday surf report: Unfavorable conditions

April 3rd, 2009, 7:02 am by Jeff Malanca, contributing writer

Waking up with the waves on Friday.  Well unfortunately we’re dealing with another day of unfavorable conditions.  There’s a light west wind which is putting some bump or light chop on it everywhere.

We’ve got a continued mix of minor to decent northwest windswell and some southwest energy in the water.  That recipe is making for some crumbly lines with a few fun ones.

Most OC beaches are running about knee to stomach high with the top spots pulling some chest high sets with not much more than that.

At 11:59 later this morning the tide drains out to a negative 0.3 low and then pushes back up to a 3.8 high at 6:59 this evening.

If you’re really itching to get wet, the 4/3 full is plenty with the water temp at most breaks hanging between 57 and 58 degrees.

Thursday surf report: Not very motivating

April 2nd, 2009, 7:23 am by Jeff Malanca, contributing writer

Good Thursday morning surf addicts.  Well it’s definitely not looking very motivating.  There’s a pretty stiff south wind which is putting some bump or light chop on it at many spots.

We’ve got a minimal to decent mix of northwest windswell and some small scale southwest energy in the water.  That recipe is making for some kinda disorganized crumbly and bumpy lines with a few workable ones.

Most OC beaches are running about knee to waist high with the standout spots pulling stomach high waves with maybe a few chest high sets.

At 10:52 later this morning the tide drains out to a negative 0.2 low and then pushes back up to a 3.3 high at 6:24 this evening.

If you must get wet, break out no more than a 4/3 fullsuit with the water temp at most spots hanging between 57 and 59 degrees.
