Rip Curl Wetsuits demo day

Bolsa Chica beach clean up tomorrow

The Surfrider Foundation Seal Beach Chapter is holding a beach clean up tomorrow.

The second Saturday of each month interested volunteers should meet at Bolsa Chica State Beach, Tower 21

If you’re planning on helping out remember to wear some comfortable clothes, closed toe shoes and plenty of sunscreen.

The Surfrider Foundation will provide: gloves, bags, hand sanitizer and the other essentials for cleaning up trash on the beach.  For more info. go to www.sbhbsurfrider.org

Surfscience Teen Conference

tide-pools1If you’re a teenage surfer or a teen who just enjoys the ocean and would like to learn a little more about the world’s biggest body of water, then check this out.

The second annual Surfscience Teen Conference is happening in a little over a week from now in Dana Point.  Several 8th through 12th grade students from the across the southland are expected to attend.

If you’ve always wondered where waves come from or what causes the big tide swings in the ocean, then this is a great opportunity to get a lesson in Ocean 101.

Blessing of the Waves

blessing-of-the-wavesIf you’re a surfer who appreciates the ocean, then here’s an event you might like to attend.  The second annual “Blessing of the Waves” ceremony is happening in Surf City a week from Sunday.

A handful of religious leaders will be on hand to bring together surfers and ocean minded people regardless of their faith and to show spiritual appreciation for the ocean and all that it offers.  

They will also discuss the impact of climate change and pollution in our communities and how it’s impacting the poor throughout the rest of the world.

The event which is hosted by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange seeks to build on the environmental and spiritual messages from last year’s event.

WSA surf contest heads for Ventura

wsa-surf-photoIf you’re heading up north this coming weekend for a surf session, stop by and watch several amateur surfers compete in Ventura on Saturday and Sunday.

It’s the second stop of the WSA Western Surfing Association’s 2009/2010 tour.  This event is likely to bring out surfers of all levels from up and down the California Coast.

Divisions include everything from girl and boy Groms to the men and women Seniors. 

The action takes to the water each day about 7:30 a.m and usually wraps up by about 6 p.m each day.  For more info. check out surfwsa.org.

Well if you’re a fan of Dane Reynolds, Freddy Patacchia, Nic Muscroft, Jeremy Flores,Miky Picon and Aritz Aranburu then check this out.

Here’s your chance to see these amazing surfers up close and personal while they’re all in town. 

The team of Quiksilver riders will be signing autographs and who knows maybe you’ll even be able to get a photo with some of these guys.

And I haven’t heard if 9-time World Champion Kelly Slater will be on hand, but if he continues his run at The Hurley Pro, maybe he’ll even show up and be hanging with the rest of the crew.

Oakley Surf Shop Challenge National Championships

oakleyThe top five remaining surf shops from around the country are gathering in Surf City tomorrow for the 2009 Oakley Surf Shop Challenge National Championships.  Each team is made up of four surfers.

The shops that have made it to the final match include, Heritage Surf Shop representing the the Northeast, Surfride representing the Southwest, Town and Country from Hawaii, Freeline Design Central/Northwest and Sunrise Surf Shop representing the Southeast.

The Oakley Surf Shop Challenge has been around the country and back with five regional qualifiers, but it’s time to decide who which core surf shop will walk away with $10,000, a full-page shop profile in Surfer Magazine and bragging rights for the year.

Last year’s defending Surf Shop Challenge National Champions, Surfride will try to defend that title once again.  For more info. check out surfshopchallenge.com.
