dalevelzy3.jpgThe Dale Velzy Surf Classic is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, an event that pays tribute to one of the most extravagant surfer legends around.

The Doheny Longboard Surfing Association puts on the event, based on the best tides, swell predictions and the luck of the draw. The event this year takes place on Sept. 26, at Doheny State Beach.

The event is open to the public. Velzy passed away in 2005. Do you know your Velzy history? Take a quiz here.

Here’s more from the press release:
“The 20th edition of this surf classic has a very special place in the hearts of all Doheny Longboard Members.  Dale Velzy was an extremely special person to us all and this program is our yearly tribute to one of the true pioneers of the sport” said, Nyle Schafhauser, DLSA President.
