Andy Irons moves on to the Round of 24

July 23rd, 2009, 11:43 am · Post a Comment · posted by Jeff Malanca, contributing writer

3-time World Champion Andy Irons looks like he’s ready for the ASP World Championship Tour again.  The Kauai native advanced out of his Round of 48 heat on Thursday morning at the 2009 U.S. Open of Surfing.

A.I. said it’s only been six months since he’s been away from the ASP Dream Tour, but plans to be back in 2010.  Irons took some time off from the competitive surf scene and has been traveling around the globe chasing waves for most of 2009.

Also advancing with Irons was young Florida ripper Eric Geiselman who took the win.  Both Geiselman and Andy Irons will surf their Round of 24 heats on Friday morning, July 24.
