Surfline: Look for evening glass off

July 7th, 2009, 8:15 am · Post a Comment · posted by Laylan Connelly, staff writer

Surfline.com forecaster Kevin Wallis gives us a glimpse at what the surf and weather is expected to look like this week:

We’ll see a slight cooling trend, thanks to the development of a Catalina eddy, on Thursday and Friday. Overcast skies and light southerly wind will prevail in the mornings, with clearing skies and a light to moderate southwesterly wind in the afternoons. For you surfers out there, keep an eye out for an evening glass off, especially in the south half of the county.

Beach temps will reach the upper 60’s to around 70 degrees and then will likely warm heading into the weekend. Water temps are still cold, mainly in the upper 50’s to low 60’s, but should also gradually warm through the second half of the week.

We’ll have fun size summer surf for the middle to second half of the week, thanks to a combination of south-southwest swell and locally generated northwest windswell. We’ll also see just a touch of southeast swell from former Tropical Storm Blanca, which is now weakening off the coast of Baja. Look for peaky 2-3’+ surf at many breaks through the middle to second half of the week, with the top breaks seeing 4’ and a few larger waves.

Just keep an eye out for the morning southerly wind (especially in the north half of the county), which will likely put a bit of crumble on the water. Going a little further out, it appears that we’ll see a very similar size northwest and south swell mix heading through the weekend.  Have fun, be safe and we’ll see you out in the water!
