Surfline: Surf will be largest in south county

Surfline forecaster Kevin Wallis gives us a look at what the waves will look like this week:

For the middle to second half of the work week, we’ll see mainly cloudy skies in the mornings with clearing skies in the afternoons. Beach temps will push into the low 70’s. Similar conditions look likely for the holiday weekend. Water temps have cooled and are now in the low 60’s for the north half of the county and in the mid 60’s for the south half of the county.

Our surf on Wednesday will be from an easing southwest swell. This swell will be largest in the south half of the county with 2-3 occasional 4 foot surf at the better breaks. Select standout spots will even see some larger waves at times up to 5 foot on the face. Due to the swell blocking effects of San Clemente and Catalina Islands, the north half of the county will see smaller and less consistent surf, especially for those breaks located north of Huntington Beach. The southwest swell will fade further on Thursday with smaller waves throughout the county and then mainly just weak leftover swell by Friday.
Going out a little further, we’ll see a new southwest swell gradually build in over the holiday weekend with more fun size surf that will be largest in the south half of the county. Have fun, be safe and we’ll see you out in the water!
