Reminder: Beach party and bikini contest today

June 25th, 2009, 8:21 am · 1 Comment · posted by Laylan Connelly, staff writer

Just a reminder that there’s a beach party going down today in Newport off 30th street for Irrelevant Week.

Mr. Irrelevant - the last person picked in the NFL draft - is treated to a week of festivities to celebrate his bottom-of-the-list ranking.  Read more about the week’s festivities here.

This year’s Mr. Irrelevant is Ryan Succop of North Carolina.

Among the festivities planned is a beach party on Thursday in Newport, where Succop will be learning how to surf, and lessons will be given to others who want to learn.

The non-profit group Wheels 2 Water (read an article I wrote a few years ago) will also be there, demonstrating how surfers who are paralyzed get out into the water. The day benefits the organization, and people can show up to enter raffles or buy food or drinks to help out. Also, later tonight Mr. Irrelevant will be bartending at Malarky’s Irish Pub where there will also be a bikini contest. Anyone can enter.
