If you’re looking for a fun contest to watch or join this weekend, head down to Doheny State Beach to check out a 60s-style surf contest.
The Doheny Longboard Surfing Association is putting on the event near the river mouth on Saturday. You can sign up at the beach, contest starts at 7 a.m.
Awards will be given out for moves such as best noseride and longest ride.
Contestants have to use boards from the 60s - top shapers of the day include Dewey Weber, Greg Noll and Hobie Alter. Back in those days, the boards didn’t have much rocker and they were very, very heavy.
