The second stop of the 2008 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing wrapped up yesterday at Sunset Beach on Oahu’s North Shore.  Walking away with a big win was ASP World Championship Tour surfer CJ Hobgood.  The Floridian is the first goofy-footer in more than decade to win at Sunset Beach.  Competitors had clean conditions for the final with the waves 20 to 25 feet on the face and completely cranking.  Australia’s Tom Whitaker was runner-up while Sunset Beach local Marcus Hickman came in third and finishing in fourth was South Africa’s Jordy Smith.  The third and final stop of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing is the Billabong Pipeline Masters.  The official waiting period for that event starts on Monday Dec. 8 and runs through Saturday Dec. 20.  For additional highlights or to watch the live action once the Pipe Masters begins, go to triplecrownofsurfing.com.
