The 19th Annual Dale Velzy Surf Classic and Luau will be held this Saturday at Doheny State Beach.

The day will feature a classic longboard surf contest, a Laua with Polynesian dancers and a live band.

Velzy - who passed away in 2005 was a well-known surfboard shaper and a member of the Doheny Longboard Surfing Association. The event has been going on for 19 years.

Velzy seemed like a really interesting character. I had the great honor to learn about him at the Velzy event a few years back. Check out the story here.
