BMP: Quarterfinals set

September 11th, 2008, 10:16 am · Post a Comment · posted by Shawn Price

Quarterfinals for the Boost Mobile Pro are set after Brazil’s Heitor Alves eliminated Australia’s Jay Thompson and fellow Aussie Taj Burrow knocked off South Africa’s Jordy Smith.

In quarter one, former event champ Bede Durbidge will face Ventura’s Dane Reynolds. Santa Barbara’s Bobby Martinez will have the unenviable task of facing Kelly Slater in quarter two.

In quarter three, defending world champ Mick Fanning will go against France’s Jeremy Flores who was a finalist at the 2007 U.S. Open of Surfing. Burrow will face Alves in quarter four.

Swells seem to be dropping, so organizers are expected to finish the contest as quickly as possible. That means the final will likely be early afternoon.

Be forewarned, if you’re coming down to the contest, parking has already overflowed. Take your lunch time at your desk and watch it on the live webcast.
