Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal remain undefeated in pool play in Olympic beach volleyball.
Costa Mesa’s Gibb and teammate Rosenthal topped the German team of Julius Brink and Christoph Dieckmann 21-15, 21-13. This time, they didn’t have to play in the rain, but were challenged early before pulling away. Gibb had five blocks in the match.
The duo finish their pool Thursday against Japan. They are virtually assured of reaching the next round.
The rest of this week’s scheduled preliminary matches are:
Wednesday
Rogers/Dalhausser vs. Conde/Baracetti (Argentina)
Nicole Branagh/Elaine Youngs vs. Esteves Ribalta/Crespo (Cuba)
Thursday
Walsh/May-Treanor vs. Hakedal/Torlen (Norway)
Gibb/Rosenthal vs. Asahi/Shiratori (Japan)
