Surfline weekly forecast: fun-sized swell

August 5th, 2008, 7:56 am · Post a Comment · posted by Laylan Connelly, staff writer

Surfline forecaster Kevin Wallis gives us a look at what the waves in Orange County will look like  for the next week:

A relatively active storm track in the Southern Hemisphere of late has a series of modest to fun size south-southwest swells lining up over the next few days.  Small northwest windswell will also creep in during that time.

For Wednesday look for knee-waist-chest high range surf at many breaks as south-southwest swell holds steady for much of the day. Standout breaks see shoulder high+ and occasional larger sets. The southerly swell slowly tapers off Thursday as a touch of northwest windswell builds in.

Look for generally light and variable winds in the morning for the next couple days along with fairly smooth sea surface conditions. Moderate strength westerly wind will develop each afternoon.

Going into the longer range, we have another modest size south swell on tap for the coming weekend with larger southerly swell possible around the middle part of the month. This second swell is thanks to a relatively large and fairly intense storm now off the southern end of South America, which we will be watching closely in the next couple days. Of course you can stay tuned to Surfline for all the latest updates and we’ll see you out in the water!
