Crowds pack the sand at U.S. Open of Surfing

July 26th, 2008, 12:25 pm · Post a Comment · posted by Laylan Connelly, staff writer

It’s bumper-to-bumper here on the sand at the U.S. Open of Surfing, with slow walking on the wooden planks set up around the festival area.

It’s hard to say exactly how many people are out here this  weekend - but with the hot weather and solid surf coming through, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see record attendance down here at the Huntington Beach Pier.

If you’re heading down, be prepared to deal with serious parking issues. All day valet at Dukes are demanding $50 - if you can even find a spot.

The overcast at 1:30 p.m. just rolled through, but it’s still a bit hot and muggy.

If you’re headed down, here’s a map and schedule to help guide you.
