Surfline: Weekly outlook

July 15th, 2008, 3:28 pm · Post a Comment · posted by Laylan Connelly, staff writer

us openSurfline.com forecaster Kevin Wallis gives us a look at what’s in store for the weekend:

A mix of modest Southern Hemisphere southwest swell and locally generated northwest windswell will prevail over the next few days, with new southeast swell from Hurricane Elida also moving in for the second half of the week.

On Wednesday, we’ll see primarily southwest swell in the water for inconsistent waist-high surf at the better breaks, mainly in the south half of the county. Standout spots see very occasional chest-high sets. By later Thursday and Friday, slightly larger surf moves in as southeast swell from Hurricane Elida builds, northwest windswell also increases and mixes with further swell from the Southern Hemisphere.

Lots of spots see knee-chest high waves, while top breaks in the north half of the county see shoulder high and occasional larger sets. The combination of swells will generally produce the best quality waves at the beachbreaks.

A weak Catalina eddy looks to set up for Thursday and Friday with light southerly wind in the morning, along with overcast skies.  Skies clear through the afternoon to hazy sunshine as moderate southwest flow picks up.

Going out a little further, a much larger south swell will build in as we move through the weekend. Stay tuned to Surfline.com for all the details on that and we’ll see ya out in the water!
