Conlogue reaches final, U.S. still in medal hunt at World Juniors

The U.S. Juniors Surf Team remained in the medal hunt Friday at the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships in France despite slipping deeper into the repercharge bracket.

Santa Ana’s Courtney Conlogue led the U.S. team, reaching the girls medal final on Friday, where she will face New Zealand’s Airini Mason and two surfers still to be determined. Her performance helped the U.S. team remain in third place in total team points and medal contention closely behind Hawaii and South Africa.

Nat Young was knocked into the repercharge after finishing third in his Round 5 heat of the Boys Under 18 division. His fellow Under 18 squad is dwindling with Chase Wilson and Dane Zaun already eliminated.

Conner Coffin is the lone yankee left in the Boys Under 16 division, with a strong performance in repercharge round 7. Andrew Doheny and Kolohe Andino were eliminated in repercharge round 6 and Luke Davis in round 5.

Sage Erickson remained the only other girls squad member alive in the repercharge, with Demi Boelsterli knocked out in repercharge round 6 and Amy Nicholl in round 5.

Rain and flat conditions threaten Sunday’s day of competition, so organizers will try to finish on Saturday at Hossegor.
