Surf Report 5-22-08

May 22nd, 2008, 7:10 am · Post a Comment · posted by Jeff Malanca, contributing writer

Good Thursday morning surf addicts.  Well what a bummer, we’ve got another day of good combo action, but we’re dealing with a pretty steady southwind.  It’s a bit messy with a light to moderate chop on it at many spots.

We’ve got a continued  mix of fading south southeast swell and some west northwest windswell in the water.  That recipe is making for some kinda disorganized broken up lines with a few decent corners to pick off.  Now if that wind backs off, it could get good.

Most OC beaches are running about chest to shoulder high with the top combo spots seeing head high waves with some overhead plus sets.  At 5:46 a.m the tide drained out to a negative 0.4 low which will have many spots lacking water early on.  The tide then pushes back up to a 3.2 high at 12:35 this afternoon.

If you’re gonna grab a session, break out no more than a thin fullsuit with the water temp at most breaks averaging between 62 and 66 degrees.

Good luck out there!!
