All Wildcard Teahupoo Final

The two surfers who made it all the way to the final of the 2008 Billabong Pro Tahiti both have a few things in common. Local Tahitian Manoa Drollet and Brazil’s Bruno Santos both aren’t on the ASP World Championship Tour and both surfed in the Teahupoo trials winning wildcard spots into the main event. Yesterday these underdogs knocked out all the big boys and joined each other in the final showdown at the left hand reef break. The surf for most of the contest was four to six feet and perfect with plenty of killer tube rides, while on the last day of competition it was quite a bit smaller and very inconsistent. It was a low scoring final with Manoa Drollet and Bruno Santos never finding any amazing barrels, but Santos managed to wrack up enough points on a borrowed board to beat the local boy 9.16 to 6.83.
