When somebody brings up the state of Texas, one usually thinks of cowboys and not surfers, but believe it or not that stretch of coastline also has its fair share of surf addicts. One in particular is a guy by the name of James Fulbright. This hardcore surfer is best known as the guy who introduced tanker surfing to the world in Dana Brown’s 2003 film Step Into Liquid.
Prior to that Fulbright owned a successful surfshop called Strictly Hardcore Surf Specialties and a shaping business, which is still on Galveston Island’s Seawall boulevard. Recently, he decided that he wanted the customer to interact more with the shaper. Most often the consumer doesn’t get a chance to see their custom board being shaped. So with that in mind, Fulbright decided to do an expansion at his first shops original location and install a window in his shaping bay that allows customers to watch the boards being made.
If you ever make your way down to the upper Texas coast, check out James Fulbright’s newest surf shop called Strictly Hardcore Surf and Shape, located on the corner of 37th and Avenue R on Galveston Island. In addition to his own Senator and Hurricane surfboards, he’s also carrying Firewire, Aviso, Surf Prescriptions by Jeff “Doc” Lausch, Linden, and Bessell. The shop will also be stocked with an assortment of apparel and surf hardgoods. For more info. go to www.inkspotcreative.com.
