
Three elite ASP World Qualifying Series contests held along the California coast are back for the fourth year in a row. The WQS contests make up the Macy’s California Trifecta Surf Series. The North American Association of Surfing Professionals specialty series is made up of the 6.0 Lowers Pro at Lower Trestles, San Clemente, April 29-May 3; Oakley Newport Pro at 56th Street, Newport Beach, September 16-21; and the O’neill Coldwater Classic at Steamer Lane, Santa Cruz, October 21 -26, 2008.
And check this out, for the surfer who can win all three events, they’ll get a nice $33,333 bonus. However, if one surfer can’t conquer all three contests, the overall points winner will get $10,000 with $3,500 going to second and $1,500 to third. Last year, Ventura’s Adam Virs was the overall points winner who took home $10,000.
The Oakley Pro Junior events are also back for the second year, which will run consecutively with the WQS contests. This year they’ve increased the prize purse to $10,000 for the top three overall point winners from the three Trifecta series events.
