HB Surf Series in trouble, says Deffenbaugh

The long-running HB Pro/Am Surf Series is in financial trouble and has canceled its first event.
Just a few weeks out from its season opener, owner and former World Tour surfer Jeff Deffenbaugh of Huntington Beach sent word out that not only was the event canceled, but the entire season is in doubt due to lack of sponsorship.
It’s the old problem for surfing contests and this year, things are tough all over. But Deffenbaugh is not calling it quits just yet and is currently entertaining all offers for new deals.
Deffenbaugh’s message read:
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to inform you that the first event in May has been canceled and the whole season is on hold until we secure the sponsorship needed to run quality events.
A big THANKS goes out to ALL of you for supporting us over the years and could not have had such great success without your backing!
Thanks so much and keep surfing,
Jeff D.
Those seriously interested in boosting local surfing can send their inquiries to sprice@ocregister.com and I’ll forward them to Jeff.
