The Newport Harbor High School Newport Classic surf competition wrapped up yesterday at 54th street in Newport Beach.  There was a decent amount of surf for the two-day event, however the conditions were pretty lousy due to the howling onshore winds, which made things a bit difficult for the competitors.

But that didn’t stop Newport Harbor’s Chase Wilson from taking home the win in the high school division. Wilson managed to get an 8.6, which was the highest wave score of the day. In the women’s division it was Harbor’s Kaleigh Gilchrist who won. Taking first in the middle school division was Colin Moran.

Wilson, Gilchrist, and Moran are all members of the exclusive USA surf team.  The annual surf contest raises funds for Newport Harbor’s surf team.
