Two pitbulls that killed a cocker spaniel last week at Dog Beach in Huntington Beach are scheduled to be euthanized Saturday.
The owner of the small dog said her animal was mauled after it got between the male and female black pit bulls, according to Huntington Beach lifeguard Steve Reuder.
The cops showed up and drew their guns on the dogs, which were not showing aggression toward people, Reuder said. Cops tazored the male dog, and Reuder put a leash on the female pit bull.
“The lady was really distraught,” Reuder said. “They said they were there every day and never thought it would happen. It was a real tragedy.”
Martin Senat, founder and the president of the non-profit that runs Dog Beach, said that 2 million visitors have come to the beach in the past 11 years, with 200,000 dogs a year. It is the first dog that has been mauled.
He said he approached the pit bull owners to ask if the dogs were safe, and the owner ensured Senat they would not take the dogs off the leash.
“These two people bulls, I thought ‘oh my God,” he said. “They had chains around their neck, and muzzles.”
He said a group of volunteers regularly keep an eye out for dogs that look like trouble, but they can not act as law enforcement and ask people to leave.
“It’s not a perfect world. I’m an animal lover,” he said. “And if anything happens to a dog, I’m broken hearted. We do anything we can.”
Ryan Drabek, Animal Control spokesman said this is a reminder for people to put their dogs in training. He said he sees dog biting with all breeds.
Dog Beach is located along Pacific Coast Highway between 21st street and Seapoint. For more information about rules, click here.
The owners of the small dog said they had rescued it from the pound.
The pit bulls’ owner left the scene once the small dog was attacked.
“The owner ran away and abandoned his dogs,” Reuder said.
One more reason NOT to go to the dog beach or dog parks….People with untrained dogs!!!
The owner RAN AWAY!!! Let me guess: Dogs bred to kill don’t kill, irresponsible owners who fail to adequately train and supervise them kill. And any pit bull owner who supports that statement ought to support criminal charges against any pit bull owner whose pit bull attacks and kills.
Good thing it wasn’t a child who came between those two dogs.
“The owner ran away and abandoned his dogs,” Reuder said.
The owner does not deserve to own dogs … hope he/she doesn’t have any kids.
I don’t understand why people are allowed to own pit bulls. Seems like this breed is always causing troubles, biting off kids ears and killing other dogs. Yes you can train them to be nice, but can we really trust the average person with this potentially deadly beast? According to law we cannot own other exotic animals that are cute and harmless, so why do we have to allow pit bulls. Just put them on the banned list. If not, then let us keep some of these other banned furry exotic animals at home.
“Ryan Drabek, Animal Control spokesman said this is a reminder for people to put their dogs in training. He said he sees dog biting with all breeds.”
Sure Ryan, all dogs are the same. Good whitewash job. You should bring a few pit bulls home from the pound as family pets.
Nice illegal Mexicans bringing untrained “fight-dogs” to the beach. The owner probably left them because he knew he was going to have to get them neutered under the new law soon anyway.
We should lock this owner in the cell with Michael Vick for a couple of years, then deport him.
pit bulls are not exotic and cute, nor are they the only potential deadly beast. compared to humans and even other animals, how many dog related deaths are there per year in comparison? thats what i thought.
do you actually think before making a comment.
the cop said he has seen ALL dog breeds bite, not just pit bulls. that training is the issue.
a dog beach does not separate small and large dogs like the parks do, that is part of the problem.. my dog doesnt like small dogs either and she isnt a pitt bull.
and obviously the main problem was the owner, not the dogs.
how many famous people do you see own pit bulls?? please.
SOMEBODY out there knows who owned those dogs. Turn them in!!! Those pitbull owners who abandoned the scene and failed to take responsibility are nothing but human garbage and nobody should be protecting them.
What kind of moron runs away while his dogs are attacking another dog? Oh wait, the kind of moron who brings two vicious dogs to a public beach where there are dogs and children! Also, can anyone tell me why pitbull owners seem to be some of the dumbest people out there? Do they think that owning cruel animals somehow makes up for their low IQs?
Hey Jose… how do you know the owners are illegal Mexican’s? I don’t recall the story indicating what race or who the owners were.
Don’t let one bad apple ruin it for everyone, my dog loves dog beach and dog parks in general
remember, it is a DOG beach.. i wouldnt bring a child or even small dog that cannot hold its own.
So tragic the way people discriminate. OCBEAR said “I don’t know why people are allowed to own pitbulls”. For one things this is not true of the entire breed. The AKC recognizes the American Pit Bill Terrier and Staffordshire Terrier as breeds. Many, many people, reponsible people own and love their APBT’s.
I agree it’s said what these gangbanger type people are doing with the dogs; they sure aren’t responsible pet owners if they ran away.
Dog Beach should have a separate area for large and small dogs. Dog Beach is a wonderful place and should not be shut down for one incident. People too need to take responsibility. If you are on a beach and see someone with a questionable dog be vigilant and put your own pup on a leash to protect him. Don’t expect other people to take action because it’s “their” dog. I see many people just expect the other dog owner to move out of the way or put their dog on a leash.
I love my pit bull “Bud”. He’s great with kids and other animals and has been through obedience training and is getting ready to test for his Canine Good Citizen test.
Just remember, everyone who visits dog beach does so at their own risk. Be smart for your dog.
Euthanize the owner
I am so tired of all the dog owners/advocates coming to the defense of pit bulls. Please don’t try to convince the general population that these bred killers are cute and cuddly. They are unpredictable and should not be allowed in the community. When I was 7 months pregnant, a pit bull charged me and sunk it’s nails into my belly. I had done nothing but got out of my car and the dog was not leashed.
In HB, there is a leash law. It drives me nuts that dog owners do not abide by the law and keep their dogs leashed, especially when they are at public places like parks and the beach where there are other animals and children.
As for the fool that took the dogs in question to the beach and then fled as they were tearing apart the spaniel, he/she should be tracked down and prosecuted.
I know he is Mexican because he works for me occasionally picking strawberries in the field. He is generally a decent guy. He is sometimes late for work on Monday (or doesn’t show up at all) from drinking all weekend, but he is good to his 3 children and 16-year-old wife.
The dogs were probably just left by his brother when he got arrested a couple weeks ago. Fighting dogs like that could mean big money.

You evidently don’t so why should you question anyone else?
End your question with a question mark. It is beside the shift key on the lower right of your keyboard.
You may now proceed to defend your English grammar ignorance by discounting its relevancy.
It’s nonsense when these pit bull owners say it is an owner training problem rather than a breed problem. The pitbull variety was specifically bred to have strong muscular bodies with an aggressive temperament to “hold on to violently struggling bulls despite injury”, to protect the farmer from being gored by the bull. This breed then became popular for dog fighting. Having had many dogs over the years, and two right now, I’m quite familiar with the genetic behavioral predisposition of certain breeds. So much of dog behavior is innate, and it takes only a little influence from the environment to bring out these traits, whether favorable or unfavorable. Pit bulls are just bad genetics. Existing owners should be able to keep them with proper training but all new births or adoptions of these monsters should be banned in Orange County. Already many countries and US communites ban pit bulls, for good reason.
Most of you on here are a bunch of ignorant fools with no knowledge of the American Pit Bull Terrier. Hence the word “American.” Yes, the first breed to be registered by the United Kennel Club, probably the most versatile breed of dogs in history. If anyone is to blame, it would be first and obviously, the idiot owners who do not know how to train and RAISE a Pit Bull properly, let alone walking them in a public beach or park. Second, it’s the idiot breeders who do not know anything about genetics and animal traits, and so they end up breeding some pretty stupid, unstable, nervy, shy, aggressive and no good dogs, not to mention ugly too. And so they put a spike collar or chain around it’s neck, and call it a Pit Bull, because it looks like one. However, it does not act like one, or have the traits of a well bred Pit.
A well bred APBT first and foremost has sound and stable temperment, is NOT shy or nervy, and should always be up for any games that is presented. Not to mention having focus, determination, courage, and the will to please their owner. More imporantly, a dominant dog doesn’t mean an aggressive dog either. A dog with pure confidence should stand it’s ground and only knows that a small or little dog cannot hurt them, therefore it should show no sign of dog aggression. On the contrary, beware of other people’s dogs that show aggression toward a Pit Bull, for a Pit Bull is NO CUR, and can easily put down another dog if it has to. From my experience, a big dog bites a little dog because of fear.
In conclusion, always purchase a Pit Bull from a reputable breeder, raise with good intentions, take it to training class, and socialize it at any early age. You will be rewarded with a great dog in the end. For first time pet/dog owners, I wouldn’t recommend a Pit Bull, unless you can follow through with the steps above. Remember, APBTs are not your average dog, they are highly active and playful, so time is of essence. For all Pit Bull fanciers, lets keep our breed alive and well.
I stopped taking my dogs to that beach because of nucklheads like this owner. I’ve seen guys bring their un-neutered pits there acting all tough. It’s a shame a few jerks spoil things for everyone.
Dog parks are the same thing…..it’s just not worth the risk.
hmmm, the dog sunk its nails into your belly.. you make it seem like it purposely went after your baby and was trying to kill it? maybe it was just jumping up on you, which is usually a sign of affection.. but bad habit that the owner hasnt fixed. sharp nails that should be cut back is not attacking.
animals have great sense, but im sure you know that. so maybe you thought you did nothing, but the dog sensed something. who knows, none of us were there to witness the event. just saying it attacked you is not enough information to form an accurate opinion.
i have never been attacked by a dog, even ones i rescue who are scared or bleeding from wounds and defensive. but if i was 7 months pregnant and saw an unleashed pit bull running around, i would definitely wait to get out the car and not push my luck. you really cannot blame the dog for your own stupidity. just like parents who do not teach their children to wait for the owners permission before approaching their dog.
i agree, dogs should be leashed when out in public.. even little toy ones. another thing that bugs me is dogs in the back of trucks, how is that even legal?
i have a large dog who is overly friendly, which people take the wrong way. and not to be racist, but it doesnt help that she is black haired (seriously). so i walk her late at night when nobody else is out and thereby avoid potential problems such as yourself has encountered. i also do not take her to dog parks, too stressful in general and she does not enjoy it anyways (nudges her leash to be put back on).
and your argument does not make sense. i have been attacked by a man, so should they not be allowed in the community also. geez.
well i have 2 pitbulls, and they are sweeter & mannered more than the annoying chiauwawa down the street! if they are trained the way the owner’s want them to be, then that’s how they will be… PITBULLS ARE THE BEST!!
nostrodomus.. i have several degrees and am actually a cfo, not that it should pertain. i purposely dont end some sentences with a question mark and this is not a written assignment that will be graded by an instructor (i also dont use capitals and like incomplete sentences, but oh well, you cannot catch everything now).
ummm………… how about your its as it’s or keep it as it is which you did in the previous sentence. that was awkward.
thats what i thought. oh i mean.. That is what I thought. how does that make a difference. oh i mean.. How does that make a difference?
thanks for the laugh.
Jose,
I hope you let the authorities know about the dog owner, who abandoned his dogs. So that he can be held responsible for his actions. People like this, need to understand that a pet is not something that can be thrown away and abandoned when they no longer serve their use. I hope he gets caught and is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law
While I’m sad about what happened to the little dog….pitbulls should not be banned! I am the PROUD and RESPONSIBLE owner of a blue nose pit. She is three years old and has been to the HB Dog Beach and dog park several times, with no problems. If a pitbull acts in such a way, it’s the dog owners fault, not the dog. I don’t beat my dog, nor do I tether her up in the yard. My dog has slept with my children, in their bed since she was born. (I think she confuses herself for on of them actually.) We love our dog with all of our heart and she loves us the same because she knows she can trust us!!! Please don’t hate the breed, hate the deed!!! Just as an FYI…studies show there have been more reported dog bites from Chihuahua’s than pitbulls.
It’s sounds to me that after reading everyone’s statement’s that there are alot of uneducated people talking. People are the problem not the breed. I have encountered and owned a variety of dogs from small cute dogs to the so called dangerous pitbull. If people would take responsibility for there dogs and actually take the proper time and educate there dog , there would be no problems. If everyone thought like OCBEAR the world would be a horrible place to live. Its not genetics it’s the idiots that get dogs and treat them like children. Look at Ceasar Milan the best dog he owns is a pitbull. Pitbulls are not for the weak minded, they need strong minded people to raise them and show them a good healthy life. If we give up on this breed we should give up on some small breeds that are equally agressive. Trust me there are ALOT of small breeds that attack people but there idiot owners think oh well it’s small and cute there is no big deal. If people know your animal is timid and shy you must take extra precaution no matter where you take your animal, because you just never know what will happen. It’s the owner’s responsibility at all times to watch there dogs like they should watch there children. I just want people to remember that IT’S NOT THE BREED IT’S THE OWNER.
The pitbulls should not be killed. What a shame that anyone is allowing this to even take place. I also own a cocker spaniel, but I know better than to go to Dog Beach. Putting these dogs to sleep is inhumane and needs to be stopped. The owner of the pitbulls should be fined big time and prohibited from coming back to Dog Beach. Why is it always the PITBULLS fault? It’s the lame owner of the pitbulls!
For eleven years Dog Beach has given 200,000 dogs each year the best time of their lives. Unfortunately, tragic incidents like the loss of a dog’s life can cast a shadow over Dog Beach, and we dog owners beg the owners of dogs who enjoy fighting to seek a dog trainer. A visit to Dog Beach will not cure your dog! One and one half miles of Dog Beach remains one of the safest and cleanest beaches where dogs can enjoy the freedom they so deserve, and let’s be sure to keep it that way. With less than one handful of incidents over a period of eleven years, and two million visiting dogs, it is truly a remarkable record, and let’s be sure to keep it that way. We should also thanks the City of HB for this treasure.
Golden Retrievers Rock. Never bite, never bark and my kids have all their limbs! Yippee!
Who the hell wants a dog that you can’t trust.
MEL says: Pitbulls are not for the weak minded
OK, let’s require a test for “strongmindedness” prior to pitbull ownership
Tortilla says: more reported dog bites from Chihuahua’s than pitbulls
And how many DEATHS from chihuahuas?
Rubypearl says: and saw an unleashed pit bull running around, i would definitely wait to get out the car and not push my luck. you really cannot blame the dog for your own stupidity
This profoundly idiotic statement proves the truth of everything the critics of pitbulls and their owners are saying.
The campaigning of pitbull owner groups here won’t change the facts of genetics. Pitbulls have a hereditary predisposition for aggression and killing and a high tolerance for pain while attacking their prey. That’s why they keep getting banned in several countries and many US communities. That’s why they keep ending up in the news. You can’t change that with your words. The fundamental cause is not the owners, it’s these beasts that have a fragile tipping-point. An expert can train a bear to be nice and cuddly too. Learn some Biology 101.
One poster said, Why is it always the pitbull’s fault. Well, it’s not the pitbull’s fault, it’s the owners…however we keep hearing case after case of Pitbull’s mauling and killing children, adults, and pets. Granted other dogs can maul too, but PitBull’s have extra powerful jaws that can do even more serious damage and are harder to free yourself from. That’s what makes their bite so deadly. That’s why they are dangerous dogs. As long as there are pitbulls around, there will be people that allow them to hurt others. I feel bad for the Pitbulls, but we do have to protect our children, ourselves, and our other less aggressive pets first. It’s like an assault rifle or machine gun….guns don’t kill people, people do….BUT this is not a weapon that the average citizen should be allowed to carry as there is no useful purpose for it. The same with Pitbulls. There should be stricter licensing, training, as well as extra precautions taken with them for anyone to be able to own one.
I wish as many people care about this incident cared about our young men and women dying in vain in Iraq….That being said, I witnessed this incident first hand and really feel for the pit bulls being euthanized for the negligence of their owner. All the owner had to do was come forward to save his dogs. Furthermore, ALL dogs are required to be on a leash at “dog beach”, that means your little poodle does too!!
All the pit bulls need to be put to dead, they need to never be able to be around any person. They have killed and hurt so many people. They have killed so many other dogs and we all have read about so many people being hurt or killed by the pit bulls. What well it take to keep them out of are neighborhood’s and stop the hurting and killing of people and animals. Yes there are other dogs that are just as bad .One poster said, Why is it always the pit bull’s fault. Well, it’s not the pit bull’s fault, it’s the owners…however we keep hearing case after case of Pit bull’s mauling and killing children, adults, and pets. Ok! Huntington Beach do something about the pit bulls and don’t aloud the pit bulls in your city. Only then well other city do the same and are city’s well be safer.
I beleive a dog’s actions reflect an owners personality. I bet the owner is one of those typical badasses in HB that need their pitbulls at their side to reinforce their tough guy image. Not saying that is how the owner really was, but sounds like a huge responsibility of them. Thats the reason he ran away. Pitbulls are only cool until this happens!
People do not clean up after their dogs (take your dog early in the am) some dogs are too aggressive - people that bring these aggressive dogs to dog beach are idiots - They shoud have shot these dogs on site and hung them for all of you morons to see as well as the dog owner to show everyone what happens when you MURDER a family member. I no longer take my dog to dog beach because of the fights I have had. It would only have been a matter of time before I killed a dog for attacking my dog. I would have then gone after the owner… It is time to close dog beach as the public is not responsible. Yes a few bad one’s ruined it for all. I would vote to close dog beach for the protection of everyone.
I was one of the original Dog Beach Petition signers over 10 years ago, it was presented to me and the HB city counsel as a few dogs on leash in a small area. The once beautiful beach is now a fetid urine reeking over-crowded, over-grown dog free-for-all, where any unaware child can cross an unmarked boundary in the sand and encounter an off leash Rottweiler, Argentine Mastiff, Pit Bull or aggressive fill-in-the-breed. The future report of another off leash mauling that includes a blond haired child victim rather than a light toned cocker spaniel is unfortunately inevitable. My stomach turns as I think of how Martin Senat will try to conjure his inflated stats to down-play the bizarre form of dangerous civil disobedience that he sadly encourages and enables.
It’s imperative that all pit bulls must be obedience trained. It should be made illegal to own one if it does not show proof of proper training. I believe this should be done with other large breeds too. I have a friend that owns a Brindle Staffordshire Pit. Her name is Thunder. This dog has won a few Best in Breeds and is well trained. She’s an absolute sweetheart with children, adults and other pets. But when her owner takes her to the dog park or to the dog beach he muzzles her. When asked why does he bring a vicious dog to the dog park, he says it’s not that I don’t trust my dog, it’s that I don’t trust yours.
Think about that for a while.
Oh by-the-way, a Pit Bull named Stubby was the first animal ever to win several U.S. Medals of Honor including a Purple Heart, was promoted to rank of Sergeant (1st dog ever), and has served in 17 battles (yes 17). He has saved his platoon (102nd) several times from mustard gas attacks and has won 4 medals for bravery from the French Government.
And Petey from the Little Rascals is a Pit Bull which has never bit anybody and has always been loving, unlike Lassie who has bit her trainer several times. All factual.
See…not all Pit Bulls are bad
I have never heard of an annoying chihuahua killing another dog or child. My uncle, a great man, had a pit bull he swore was a friendly sweet dog. He adopted the dog at a young age, and the dog was trained, and listened very well to my uncles commands. I have been around many large breeds. I have never been more terrified of a dog than my uncles pit bull. When he walked out of the room the dog would look me in the eye and start to growl and approach me. I had to call my uncle back in the room. Once my uncle insisted I ride in the car with him and the dog. While trying to get into the car the dog was crazy trying to get to me, my uncle was holding his leash to keep the dog back. We had to take separate cars. My uncle saying, “I trust my dog won’t hurt you, but I would feel terrible if something happened.” My uncle loved his dog. I can understand loving your animal. But if you dog shows any sign of aggression toward other dogs or humans, you need to think about the consequences you may have no control over. I personally am afraid of pit bulls and stay clear of them when I am walking my dogs. Trained dogs can also bite. No bite is more deadly than a pit bulls. Pit bull owners need to realize that even though their dog is the sweetest, it only takes one attacked to change peoples lives.
I’ve heard of Chihuahuas biting people and other dogs, but the difference between a Chihuahua and Pit is around 70 lbs. The Chihuahuas bite force is roughly the equivalent to an old man’s bite - with dentures (no offense to old men with dentures). The Pit’s bite is bred to take and hold down adult bulls. Big, big difference. The Chihuahua you can just squash like a roach if it attacks. The Pit, you need the Jaws of Life and a prayer. That’s pretty much the reason why no one has ever heard of a Chihuahua killing anyone.
The sand is too toxic at dog beach for anyone. 200,000 dogs have peed 400,000 places in a relatively small section of beach.
Gross. I’ll stay at seventeenth street.
there is nothing wrong with pitbulls people geez why do u persist to put down their name… judge the deed not the breed so give a pitbull a try before sentencing them all to DIE!!!! some pople bring tears to my eyes… try raising a pitbulll, it really is the owners fault u know, ive had 4 pitbulls and now have a pitbull x boxer and they are the most stunning and loyal dogs u can find, they were always good with children and cats and never snapped nomatter what, i have seen children tease my dogs and throw stones at them day after day , and my dogs would simply lift their heads and bark or walk away, (i had no gate on my property). the nature of this dog will suprise u, plz give them a chance
Dog Beach should have been shut down long ago - or at least the hours should be limited. Most other beaches in the US that allow dogs only do so during the off-season and then only during limited hours - like early morning and late evening. This pretty much then limits the dogs to the locals. “Our” Huntington Dog beach has advocates and supporters that must not have anything else to do but promote ‘Dog Beach” and now we have people coming from everywhere. I doubt that people are leaving their wet and sandy dogs in their cars to shop in dine in Huntington Beach after a visit to Dog Beach. It is a real hazard to try and ride a bike along the bike path on the weekend., and if you don’t have a dog, you are not going to want to spend time on Dog Beach. And, not everyone attempts to clean up after their dog and so there is always a little left over ’stuff’ on the bike path and greenway. Over 1/10 of the Huntington City beach has now gone to the dogs per our city government. Does not seem right and actually is really Dumb!!! My vote is to shut it down now.
I took my Maltese to dog beach once and I supervised her closely. I do not trust ANY other dog around her, even the two german sheperds that she lives with. Dogs are unpredictable. I think its disgusting that the owner of the pit bulls left the dogs.
Oh, and I don’t trust Pit Bulls either, no matter how friendly someone says that they are.
While this is a very sad story, I find it hard to blame the dogs. I go to this beach every weekend with my toy poodle and see him play with several pit bulls. I often see dogs of every breed that are leashed and when I talk to the owners they express that they either just got the dog and are trying to socialize it with care, or they know that the pet does not play well with others. Last week I saw a very cute family with their two kids and two pit bulls. The kids where digging and burring themselves in the sand and their pit bulls where eagerly helping with the digging. It was so cute I actually took pictures. NO doubt that there isn’t a news channel in these United States that would be interested in putting video or images of this cute scene as they only care for glorifying horrific incidents such as this attack. It would be even more depressing to hear that these kids lost their pets because of some fascist law banning these common dogs being passed. Today is the anniversary of Virginia Tech and to this date no law has been passed to protect students besides allowing the teachers to carry guns too. Honestly, if our society does not come to realize that we have bigger “fish to fry” then I don’t see a bright future for our current young generation. Here are some examples: The Never Ending War in Iraq, The 800 Billion Dollars and Rising Debt, Increasing Gun Violence in Schools and Society, and last but absolutely not least Global Warming. Furthermore, I would like to mention that when I was a child I was given a golden retriever puppy. We were outside and my neighbor who owned a very nice black Labrador was petting my puppy while it was upside down and her dog ripped through the screen door and grabbed my puppy in her mouth and shook it tossing it in the air. When my neighbor grabbed her dog and pulled it back, the intestines of my dog where littered over the grass and she was already dead. I was horrified and didn’t get another dog until I turned 21. No, we did not file suit or call the news. We didn’t even have her dog put to sleep, as we were friends with our neighbor and as good people felt sorrow for her position as well. We simply had a burial and said a prayer for my pet. There was a time when things were forgiven and it was understood that animals can react without warning or explanation as we do not know what they are thinking. Now I own my Toy Poodle happily and know that any dog of any breed can attack and kill my pet. I never leave him unattended and am a more responsible owner because of the incident.
My Beagle was attacked yesterday by two Pit Bulls. It was horrifing.I’m not really mad at the dogs or owners . My dog did run up to them (friendly like). The man could have pulled up on the choker. I pull one off and I held him till he tried to bite me.When I let go he went right back to attacking my dog.
What I can share as an observation on other dog bites and a Pit bulls bite is that a Pit bull does not let go . It pulls and tugs and shakes is victim. And if there are two Pit bulls they have a tug of war with the dog they are biting. It took four adults and many on lookers to get the dogs apart.I ‘ve never seen anything attack like that.Their whole goal was to kill my dog. My dog is not out of the woods yet and they might succeed in their mission. They man walking the dogs just left and didn’t stay or apologize, but a good pedestrian followed him and called the police.

I have several of these dogs in my neighborhood and they all are very nice to my toy poodle. They do bark alot when we walk by and it is intimidating. I see alot of other dogs that bark and they dont look or sound as scarry. But when they are leashed and walking with their owners they are very friendly and smell my little toy poodle and even let him lick their faces. Im always catious when my doggie meets other dogs of any breed. An English Bull dog flipped my poodle on its back and bit at his neck and I had to kick it several times in the head to get it off. It turned out that the lady walking him was not the owner but a hired walker. But my dog wasnt bleeding just scared poopless!
I pasted the segment from another posting because so far all the pit bulls I have met with my toy poodle have met that discription. I think alot of the statements on this blog are petty over reactions. Alot of people die everday over war and social violence.

I love all dogs and I hope your dog is ok. But I am curious. Did the good pedestrian call the police on you or the man walking his dogs on a leash? You are the one who broke the law.

I once had a dog that was only part pit bull, and he got into a fight the only time that we went to dog beach. Don’t ever try to seperate dogs when they are fighting. He was the nicest dog, but all dogs bite. Famous last words: oh, my dog doesn’t bite! I see many pit bulls running loose, and it makes me wonder. One even jumped over a wall to attack my new dog. I spend many hours training my dog to be non-agresssive nevertheless. It is always a top priority. My guess is that the owners are frightened people. What a sad way to live! The same people say the same things about guns and the NRA, I am certain.

Yea Teresa I also found that interesting! I’ve seen this happen before. People with small dogs think they are cute even when they are acting aggressively! They walk them without leashes and are shocked when a dog retaliates as if dogs can decipher a small dog behaving aggressively from large dog behaving aggressively.
I found her story to be curious to say the least. Also, in the Southbay Redondo area there was reports of two Sheppard’s attacking a dog that was also off leash and the owner described the attack in the same manner. The two dogs pulled the dog in a tug of war manner. It’s clear that this is a trait handed down by wolf ancestors to all dogs not just bulls.
Not covered is the effect of the food that a dog eats. This subject is covered quite thoroughly by a veterinary on the internet at dogtorj.net. He has made some important discoveries about the physical and mental effects of food that applies to people as well as animals.

Interesting point:
We went from benefull made by purina who is known to kill dogs in labs with experiments ect. To Core all natural organic. It is very expensive! Yet the dogs love it and the company is earth and animal friendly!
I have 3 pit bulls. Its stupid owners that have no idea how to be responsible with these dogs that piss me off! These are the most loving family pets. History shows that pitbulls were used for fighting bulls but the moment they showed signs of human aggression they were immediatly put down. We should concentrate on getting the BAD owners put down, not the mistreated dogs!
It’s difficult to even justify responding to the childish and ignorant comments here.
I currently own two pitbulls, my wife and I had a third until recently (old age, put her down - Gini RIP) and would challenge anyone’s misunderstanding as to their disposition.
Far and away one of the best dogs for families, especially ones with children, loyal and eager to please. You can choose to disagree, but you could not be more wrong. You could try but you would not be successful.
When there is an unfortunate event involving a pit bull, it is almost ALWAYS explainable and almost NEVER due to a “bad” animal. All breeds have flaws, even your precious golden retriever.
Sorry, but the sheer number of maulings by pit bulls as opposed to other breeds says that they are more likely than others to attack.
Maybe it’s only a small percentage of pit bulls that attack, but it is a significant percentage. I’m sure these dogs are loyal to their families, even though they sometimes turn on them also, but that loyalty seems to turn to violent protective behavior when a stranger comes around more often than in other dogs.
I’ll take a golden retriever over a pit bull any day for safety and loyalty. Which one would you fear most if you saw it out on the street wandering around?
Pitbulls severely injured my moms Husky, and the pittbulls hurt him on her property! Pittbulls are nice to other Pittbulls but when they are in packs of Pittbulls they are out for the kill of any other dog breed in sight. If anyone wants to buy a Pittbull they should really think about Pittbull attacks and what damages they could do. Pittbulls once their mind is on something they will not stop for anything we even tried to spray it with a hose, honk a car in front of them, and it finally worked when a neighbor whacked it with a shovel. Serves the darn things right!
