Reyes and Reynolds move on at Rip Curl Pro; Ward out

bobby.jpgOrange County surfers Tim Reyes and Chris Ward were both bounced into the second round of the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach, yet only Reyes survived it.

Reyes, of Huntington Beach, couldn’t get a decent wave in his first round loss to Australia’s Daniel Ross, but easily topped South Africa’s Royden Bryson in the second round 13.33-6.80. He will face Damien Hobgood of Florida later today.

San Clemente’s Ward, with the cloud of an assault trial hanging over his head, was clearly not focused in his two-and-out-performance in Victoria, Australia. After getting buried in a stacked first round heat by Andy Irons (Hawaii) and Jordy Smith (S. Africa), he was narrowly eliminated by Luke Stedman in Round 2, 13.67-13.33.

Ventura’s Dane Reynolds put on a show in his round 2 heat against Brazil’s Heitor Alves 18.73-11.64. He will face C.J. Hobgood (Florida) in Round 3. Santa Barbara’s Bobby Martinez faces Australia’s Jay Thompson.

Taylor Knox of Carlsbad was elminated by Neco Padaratz 15.83-9.0 in Round 3.

In coming third round heats, it’s defending world champ Mick Fanning vs. Troy Brooks, Kelly Slater vs. Jihad Kodhr, Andy Irons vs. Rodrigo Dornelles, Taj Burrow vs. Ross, and Joel Parkinson vs. Daniel Wills.
