Part of Seal Beach closed to swimmers after sewage spill

March 11th, 2008, 7:59 am · Post a Comment · posted by Laylan Connelly, staff writer

UPDATE: This restriction was lifted at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. All clear to surf!

Those headed to the beach to enjoy the warm weather may want to stay away from Seal Beach - an area near the San Gabriel River has been closed because of a sewage spill.
The spill - less than 10,000 gallons - occurred in Pico Rivera and traveled down to the ocean.
The restriction was put in place at about 8 p.m. Monday night, and bans swimmers and surfers from entering the water from the mouth of the San Gabriel river, to about 500 feet down coast.
The Orange County Health Agency regularly checks bacteria levels in the water, and will send out an update when all is clear to get back into the water. For more information: ocbeachinfo.com
