Cows at the beach

July 16th, 2007, 11:23 am · 1 Comment · posted by Laylan Connelly, staff writer

In a strange but interesting PR scheme, the U.S. Open of Surfing will kick off July 26 with a bunch of cows on the sand. Yes, cows.

It’s apparently a tie-in with the OC Fair - its theme this year is “Cowabunga! The Year of Herefords, Surfers and Sand.”
The 100 steers will be herded from the intersection of Goldenwest and Pacific Coat Highway, south toward the pier and on the sand.
It’s going to start about 7 a.m., and the route is about 1.5 miles.
Alls I’m saying is – there’s going to be some upset surfers out there if cow dung gets out into the surf.

Our weekly quiz asked if the PR scheme was cheesy or awesome. Here’s how you responded:

Number of votes: 65

Cheesy: 43 percent

Awesome: 57 percent.

OMG! I have to be there to take photos, I’m an artist in San Diego, I specialize in paintings of cows. Cows at the beach, that has to be a southern California happening to immortalize!
